Friday, September 18 Reeling 2015, the 33rd annual Chicago festival of LGBTQ films, had its gala opening Thursday but kicks off today for real with a slate of a half-dozen films, including the world premiere of Casper Andreas’s contemporary noir-ish mystery Kiss Me, Kill Me at 9:15.
Saturday, September 19 Since 2003 the Renegade Craft Fair has brought hundreds of crafters and thousands of shoppers together in Chicago for a marathon weekend of handmade jewelry, letterpress stationery, leatherwork, textiles, housewares, bespoke fashions, and, yes, just about anything with a bird on it. The fair returns to Division Street today and tomorrow.
Sunday, September 20 The Ravenswood Art Walk Tour of Arts & Industry celebrates the creative power of this bustling north-side neighborhood. Running Saturday and today along Ravenswood Avenue between Lawrence and Grace, the event includes walking tours of the corridor, open studios, live music on two stages, food trucks, and an outdoor artists market.
Monday, September 21 Staged in conjunction with the Chicago Architecture Biennal, work by Polish artist and architect Ania Jaworska exploring the relationship of architecture to society is on exhibit through January 31 at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Tuesday, September 22 Tonight at 7 pm the Music Box hosts a live taping of the Slate Culture Gabfest, the online magazine’s popular podcast, with hosts Stephen Metcalf, Dana Stevens, and Julia Turner. Tickets are $25; $50 for access to a 6 pm cocktail hour as well.
Wednesday, September 23 The Garfield Park Conservatory opens Luftwerk’s “solarise: a sea of all colors,” a yearlong installation of five site-specific, immersive works around the Jens Jensen-designed conservatory building and grounds that are intended to allow patrons to interact with color, light, and nature. It runs through September 22, 2016, at the west-side conservatory.
Thursday, September 24 The Stoop reading series — whose mission is “to inspire people to own their own stories and speak their truth” returns tonight at 7 pm to Rosa’s Lounge in Humboldt Park, with a night of stories titled “Didn’t Have to Use My AK.” Featured readers include Samantha Bailey, Chris Trani, and Kevin D’Ambrosio, with hosts Lily Be and Clarence Browley.
