Belt Publishing is seeking an unpaid, part-time intern for fall 2016. The intern will assist with both our book publishing and magazine arms, with a strong focus on books. You will learn about every aspect of the book publishing process, from acquiring titles to production and publicity; you’ll assist with developing catalog and press materials, and will represent Belt at book events. You will be in charge of our social media presence on Facebook and Twitter, as well as developing new social media accounts for us. The intern may also assist the magazine’s editorial team and write articles for Belt Magazine.
This is a part-time (approximately 20 hours/week) position. The hours are flexible and the work will be largely remote. Interested applicants must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently without much supervision. The staff is based in Cleveland and Chicago; applicants who live in or can relocate to Cleveland or Chicago will have an advantage.
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Strong reading, writing, and personal communication skills, as well as social media experience, are essential. Familiarity with WordPress, as well as marketing and publicity experience are desired. Experience working independently and in remote work environments helpful.
The internship runs from September 1-December 31 at a minimum; ideally, the intern will continue with us through June 2017 to participate in the entire publication process of a book. We can make arrangements for course credit.
How to apply: Send a cover letter, pasted in the body of an email, to [email protected]. The subject line of the email must be Internship Application. No attachments. If we are interested, we will follow up and request additional materials. Applications are due by August 8; we encourage applicants to send in their information as soon as possible.
