By Stephen May
Above the bituminous
blanket another ambient
afterthought
whispers
away.
Amaranth taillights slash
across the state highway
through the strip mall
hollows.
Indifferent moonrise over
slag, light diffuse behind
saffron clouds.
Stephen May was born in Pittsburgh, grew up in nearby Pleasant Hills, and attended the
University of Pittsburgh. His time in Western Pennsylvania fit neatly into the slipstream between the decline of the steel industry and the rebirth of the waterfronts at Homestead and the South Side. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Hamden, Connecticut.
