Says MacLean, “This was on the South Side. There was a park with a huge monument and a little house which was land that had been owned by Stephen Douglas. He owned slaves, and he had given a lot of land to one of the colleges in Chicago. The protesters were essentially there to get the monument removed. This rally occurred a week after Charlottesville.”
